Creativity is our birthright. As adults we dust ourselves off and bring back our juices.

My beloved is one of the salty two member teams challenged to build a boat and paddles in five hours. No nails/screws and using only the adhesive Sika Flex 291 (as well as the provided wood) creativity and sweat abounds.

Sunday August 24, 2025, 9AM–12PM
I will paint the boat. Join me... you might get to throw paint!

Race
Sunday, August 24th in Port Jefferson Harbor near the pier at Harborfront Park at 2:00pm.

Drats, not local?  I will send photos on my next newsletter and follow Alicia R Peterson Art on social media for the live action.

Take a Deep Dive: The Long Island Seaport and Eco center (LISEC) and Bayles Boat Shop

Creativity abounds as women, teens and men build wooden boats from scratch, learning and honing time-honored skills.

Under construction is the 1776 Whaleboat Project where for the past two years a 25-foot eighteenth century historically accurate whaleboat is under construction. It will launch to celebrate 250 years of independence in July of 2026.

Yes it has a working cannon. Yes whaleboats were used by men like Caleb Brewster as part of a spy ring bringing vital information to George Washington’s troops.

Take a look at the documentary in process on the Whaleboat Project. Please consider donating to preserve our history. The documentary is the brainchild of Peter Scheer
