The Angst of Pricing

Pricing paintings is one of the most angsty parts of my business. Believe me, I have studied much on this topic. I have formulas, guidelines, and a storehouse of price wisdom in my brain bank. It’s still disconcerting to put a dollar amount on art. Perhaps I need to accept it will always be so.

Ultimately, I find it an impossible question to answer. Beholding beauty transmutes us. Dancing with light and shadow, we tell our stories on canvas. We find hope.

Back to the question at hand. Logic rules. Larger works take more time and materials, thus higher prices. Earlier works are sadder than recent works to have not found a home, so they too have lower prices.

But why now depart from my logic of consistent size pricing?

Because I know how hard it can be to spend money on art. When I married, I bought a painting for my beloved. As I wrote the check, I said to myself, I shouldn’t be doing this. It’s too much money.

I was appalled. Had I really thought that?

For the above reasons, you will now see seemingly random pricing on my website.

Did you know you can now filter by price? Go to an Element (Browse All, Air, Earth, Ether, Fire, or Water) and on the right is a drop-down menu under “Sort By.”
