The late, great Stan Brodsky was the first painting teacher who “got me.” He catalyzed my creativity and nurtured my fearlessness as an abstract painter. I hear him in my studio often…

Out of the blue, Stan picked up this crate, and with conviction declared, “You can make art out of anything.”
For decades, Stan taught the Advanced Seminar in Painting at the Art League of Long Island. This was his desk that was much loved by his students. Once he was gone, his students talked about “borrowing” the desk. No, we did not… drats!

I am thrilled to announce Recastings, a retrospective of his art at Gallery North. The show runs from August 11–September 25, 2022. Opening night is August 11, 2022, 6–8 pm.

I am honored to be part of Stan Clan: Panel Discussion on Brodsky’s Influence, on August 31, 2022, at 6 pm.

In revisiting my writings on Stan, I am moved to tears of loss and gratitude for all that I learned from this gentle, courageous, fiercely creative soul.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I would love to be there and it seems pretty unlikely. Hi to all the clan.

I have begin to paint again, after a very long break. I am playing with acrylic on a very small scale and finding the fun again.
