My Insides Are Showing: Stan Brodsky and the Power of Art

Stan Brodsky challenged us to create on any material.

Stan Brodsky challenged us to create on any material.

I feel naked—bare to my soul—as I view an empty canvas. I am at my most vulnerable, yet most expansive. This is my life as an abstract painter.

When I paint, I feel as if my insides are showing. Stan Brodsky, my teacher since 2013, taught me that, yes, indeed, that is the point of abstraction. We share our stories so you may see your story, and in that that moment, we are one.

We paint joy, we paint sorrow. We paint the inside story.
